What do you think about eloping secretly and then having a wedding later?

My fiance and I can't afford to have a big wedding and we are also having problems with our families so we want to get married at the court house with just a few friends and then later plan a wedding for that day next year to have a big thing. is that weird? is it a bad thing if we get married and dont tell everyone and then just let them think that we got married when we have the big thing later?
