Not sure if friend is gay straight or bi?

I have a friend whom I haven't seen in years. He was my friend when I was married to my now ex husband. I was 23 when I eloped. Not the best idea. Ok well I used to hang out with him years ago. I wasn't sure of his sexual orientation because I know he was somewhat seeing this girl when I met him. He then started seeing a man a much older man who happened to be gay. They went on dates and hooked up. After he stopped seeing the older man he told me he was in love with me. He told my husband and we split up. I guess cause I loved my friend too. After my marriage broke up he didn't want anything to do with me. I was devastated. We stopped talking for many years and got bk in touch earlier this year. He is 30 and he has only dated two girls longest being 3 months. They didn't sleep together. Since we got bk in touch he has been really sweet and flirting alot. Hits on me all the time. Wants to come visit me and mentioned getting intimate everything except intercourse. I don't get it I'm a really attractive female. He has had sex with 2 females one a fling in college and another being a stripper he paid for sex. I was disgusted considering this guy is educated good looking and very nice. He said that I'm " 2 special" to sleep with. I don't know if he is gay and scared to admit it once and for all or he has some STD he is scared to give me. Any advice?
